Winds a factor in 2 weekend house fires

Fire crews responded to two house fires over the weekend, both related to high winds. Crews responded to a structure fire in the Holly Street area of Johnson City around 11 p.m. Sunday evening. The fire reportedly started at the back of a pool house and caused significant damage to the home. Fire department officials say that a small campfire may have started the blaze after being kicked up by high winds. The Bristol, Virginia Fire Department said a structure fire Saturday evening was caused by improper use of an outdoor burning container and windy conditions. That fire took place in the 900 block of Maple Street at around 5:30 p.m. An investigation lead officials to believe the fire originated from a “burn box” constructed on the property, with embers blown by the wind, igniting nearby debris. No injuries were reported in either fire.
