Virginia DMV says minimum coverage requirement for vehicle insurance will increase over next three years
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles says the minimum amount of insurance required for vehicles in the Commonwealth will increase on January 1st. The Senate Bill 1182 will raise the minimum insurance coverage requirements in Virginia gradually over the next three years.
Current requirements for liability insurance are as follows: Injury or death of one person must be covered up to $25,000, and property damage coverage currently must be covered up to $20,000. According to a press release, by January of 2025, the minimum requirement for injury or death of one person will have doubled, and required coverage for property damage will increase by $5,000.
