Unicoi County Sheriff won’t seek reelection
Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley says he will not be seeking reelection and will retire at the end of his term. Hensley has about 2 years left in his current term, ending at midnight, September 1, 2026. The following day he will celebrate his 67th birthday. Hensley was appointed sheriff in 2012 and was elected for three more terms. Hensley will finish his term as the longest serving Sheriff in the counties history, as well as being one of the counties longest serving employees.
