TN Governor Lee names October “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in Tennessee
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has declared October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to TN dot gov, recent figures show there were more than 69 thousand domestic violence incidents reported in Tennessee in 2020. Additionally, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says domestic violence accounted for 90 murders in the state. Director of the Office of Criminal Justice Programs, Jennifer Brinkman, says, “Communities across the state have worked to help victims of domestic violence by opening full-service Family Justice Centers at thirteen locations in Tennessee.” There is a Family Justice Center both in Sullivan and Washington counties. Those who are victims or know someone who is a victim of domestic violence are encouraged to contact their closest Family Justice Center or call 800-356-6767 anytime.
