TBI: Elizabethton resident dead following officer-involved shooting
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released a statement regarding an officer-involved shooting in Carter County Friday morning that left one person dead.
The report said the incident occurred just before 7:30 after officers arrived in the 100 block of Woodland Heights Road in Elizabethton following a report of a man with a weapon threatening residents.
A deputy with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office approached the man who the TBI said raised his weapon and approached the officer who then fired a shot. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was not injured.
The TBI will turn over evidence in the case to the District Attorney’s Office.
