More fixtures test positive for lead at Greendale Elementary School
After testing at five Washington County Virginia Public Schools found traces of lead in some water fixtures in early November, the school system conducted additional testing to determine how widespread the issue was. Further testing at one school, Greendale Elementary, found higher traces of lead in several more water fixtures. On November 7, WCPS announced the Washington County Service Authority tested five fixtures at every school, at least two fixtures in each school’s kitchens and various water fountains. WCPS Superintendent Keith Perrigan announced that additional precautions were taken at those five schools immediately. WCPS is working to determine if the elevated numbers are due to the water fixtures themselves or Greendale Elementary Schools plumbing in the walls. WCPS is continuing to test more fixtures at the other four schools before moving on to the other 11 schools in the district.
