The sequestered jury in the Megan Boswell case spent nearly 3 hours deliberating before Judge Jim Goodwin sent them back to their hotel Wednesday evening. They will resume those duties Thursday morning in Criminal Court in Sullivan County.
Defense attorney for Boswell Gene Scott rested his case after Boswell told the court she would not be testifying.
Scott also reminded jurors that two expert forensic witnesses had different opinions of Evelyn’s condition and how the child ended up dead. One expert said the toddler was alive then died after being stuffed into a trash can and restricting her air flow; the other stated she could not conclude that as the cause. The defense also implicated former boyfriend Hunter Wood as having a hand in either killing the child or disposing of the body.
Assistant DA William Harper said Evelyn’s death was no accident but the work of a master manipulator who repeatedly lied about Evelyn’s location. Harper said Boswell juggled blame and didn’t want to take care of this child.
