Carter County Sheriff’s Office regains federal contract
The Carter County Sheriff’s Office has regained its federal inmate contract that was lost due to low staffing. Carter County lost its federal inmate contract and nearly lost its state certification because of the dangerously low staffing. Now that the federal contract is back in place, starting December 1, Carter County will be caring for 36 inmates at a rate of $70 per day. That $70 per day, per inmate comes to more than $900,000 over 1 year, and it will pay for things that would otherwise come from taxpayers.
