Buchanan County fight leads to life-threatening injuries

A Buchanan County resident has been arraigned on a malicious wounding charge after police were called to a home in Vansant for a reported fight.

Whitney Jay Owens, 36, is accused of stabbing the victim with a sharp instrument at the property on Deer Trail Road.

Robert Bruce Jones II, 43, suffered life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a medical facility. The assault remains under investigation. Owens was taken to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Haysi and issued a $8,000 bond.
