Bristol Tennessee leaders budget $5 million for State Liners’ new stadium
The Bristol Tennessee City Council will take $5 million from its next operating budget to help fund a new baseball stadium on property within Whitetop Creek Park near Bristol Motor Speedway.
Boyd Sports operates a number of Appalachian League clubs and is contributing $2 million of its own dollars to fund construction.
The move signals the beginning of the end of league play at Boyce Cox Field, the home of minor league baseball in Bristol, Virginia since 1969.
The facility will provide a modern, updated playing field for the Bristol State Liners, the team created out of an Appalachian League reorganization and a throwback to the team’s original name in the early 1920s.
