Comptroller’s Office reports financial problems with Mountain View Elementary program

A Comptroller’s Office investigation revealed organizers of a morning and afterschool program at Mountain View Elementary in Johnson City allowed more than two dozen students to access those services without recorded payments over a period of 9 months.
A report from the agency said a review of 1 year of financial records for Mountain View’s Educare program showed 41 weeks of finances were unaccounted for resulting in a deficit of more than $18,000.
Investigators said the school did not have a dedicated cash drawer for the program and Educare workers failed to make timely deposits within three days of collecting payments.
School leaders have pledged to make changes for Educare while evidence from the investigation has been turned over to the District Attorney’s Office.
