Governor’s Education voucher bill gets full legislative approval
House and Senate Republicans got their school voucher bill passed in Thursday’s session but not all GOP members joined them in the vote.
Rebecca Alexander, David Hawk, Gary Hicks, and Renea Jones were among the Northeast Tennessee delegation to break away and vote against the Education Freedom Act.
Greeneville lawmaker David Hawk said the data was endless and the support was half & half, but he voted no for his constituents. City and county school boards around the region sent resolutions asking for a ‘no’ vote on the plan.
Timothy Hill, Tim Hicks, John Crawford, and Bud Hulsey voted for the voucher program. The Senate vote was 20-13 in favor of the $447 million plan.
