Carter County Officials Looking For Answers To Sheriff Department’s Low Pay Scale
Carter County officials are meeting next week to discuss the current pay scale at the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. Starting pay for a patrol officer is Thirteen dollars and 80 cents an hour which is among the lowest in the region. Monday night, Newly elected Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley also told County Commissioners when he took office in September there was a shortage of 33 officers. Fraley went on to say the biggest concern currently is the shortage could lead to the jail’s decertification. The budget committee will hold special meetings and workshops during October to further consider answers to the pay scale issue.
