Wise County Sheriff’s Department: Big Stone Gap, Hotel Robber Captured In North Carolina

A Coeburn, Virginia man is arrested Wednesday in North Carolina in connection to Monday’s robbery of a Big Stone Gap Virginia hotel. 41 year old Byron Newsome of Robinson Knob Road in Coeburn was nabbed by authorities in Canton North Carolina. Newsome, is charged with robbery, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and abduction. Newsome was seen on a blurry surveillance video walking into the Quality Inn of Big Stone Gap armed with what appears to be a rifle on blurry surveillance video. Newsome is expected to be extradited back to Wise County to answer to those charges.
