Virginia’s new budget could send millions to SWVA projects
Virginia’s recently passed $188-billion state budget would send millions of dollars to Southwest Virginia. The General Assembly agreed on a spending package that includes $2.5 million to fund efforts to construct an inland port in the region and $26 million for the City of Bristol, Virginia to put toward the landfill mitigation project. The inland port would link land based shipping in Washington County, Virginia to ships in Norfolk through a series of railways, and is still being designed. The city of Bristol, Virginia is set to collect 26 million from the state for it’s landfill mitigation efforts. Governor Younkin is now within a 30 day window in which he can sign, amend, or veto the legislation.
