Virginia’s Juvenile Justice Population Lacking Adequate Services
A new report out says Southwest Virginia and the rest of the Commonwealth are not doing enough to prevent its young people from re-entering the State’s prison system. The Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission says while the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice has had considerable success in achieving its goals, there still remain significant concerns to be addressed, including inadequate rehabilitative programs, fairness concerns and quality legal representation for black youth as compared to white youth in the juvenile justice system.
