Virginia Tech student-athletes could earn up to $6,000 for good grades

Virginia Tech will become one of only 22 schools in the nation to provide financial incentives for their student-athletes based on academic performance.
Athletic Director Whit Babcock announced the program will begin at the start of the fall semester and payments would average out to nearly $6,000.
The plan is based on a federal court ruling that allows universities the option to pay those students based on a case involving the NCAA.
