USDA approves VA agriculture officials’ plan to regulate hemp production in the Commonwealth
The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved Virginia agriculture officials’ plan to regulate hemp production in the Commonwealth. Beginning on January 1st, 2022, production of hemp across the nation must comply with the 2018 Federal Farm Bill’s hemp provisions, as well as the USDA’s Domestic Hemp Production regulations.
Notable changes to the current regulation of hemp in Virginia include requiring each applicant for an Industrial Hemp Grower registration to submit a criminal history report, as well as requiring all industrial hemp growers to test the THC concentration of their hemp lots 30 days before harvesting.
