UPDATE: More than 200 acres charred by wildfires near Sevierville
It’s being called the Hatcher Mountain / Indigo Lane Fire and it’s leaving a neighboring tourist community in Sevier County, Tennessee in ashes.
A collection of cabins at the Black Bear Resort near Sevierville were in danger and evacuated during Wednesday’s wildfire that grew to 250 acres in mere hours, leveling homes and forcing dozens to evacuate to an emergency shelter in Pigeon Forge.
There’s been no preliminary news on a source but high winds and extremely dry conditions fueled the wildfire that jarred the memories of several who lived through a 2016 blaze that killed 14 people and left billions of dollars in damage to a region that depends on tourist dollars.
