THP investigating crash after high speed pursuit
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a crash with injuries. The crash happened around 11:45 Saturday night. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a hit-and-run crash on Austin Springs Road when a deputy noticed a damaged GMC Sierra that matched the description of the vehicle that had fled the scene. The Sheriff’s office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Allison Road. The GMC initially pulled over before fleeing the stop. A pursuit began on US 11E reaching speeds of 120 mph. The GMC side-swiped a Camry and became disabled from the impact, then cut through grass before striking a drainage culvert, becoming airborne and then coming to a stop sideways near Taylor Drive. Charges are pending against the driver of the GMC. Both drivers were taken to the hospital for injuries.
