Tennessee & Virginia Governors react to U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade

The United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on Friday, which now allows individual states to control legislation regarding abortions. Tennessee Governor Lee released a statement following the Dobbs ruling, saying he is is happy authority has returned to the states.

Tennessee’s trigger law will go into effect thirty days after SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, which criminalizes performing or attempting to perform an abortion, except in cases where it is necessary to prevent death or serious injury to the mother.

Virginia Governor Youngkin takes the same stance as Governor Lee, saying he plans to encourage Virginia representatives to introduce legislation to protect life when the General Assembly returns in January.
