Tennessee Third Grade Retention Appeal Now Open
Parents’ and guardians of third graders in the Tri Cities and the rest of the state can now file an appeal if their child is being held back or attending summer school based on a below proficient reading score. The Tennessee Department of Education says eligibility for an appeal is based on if a student scored in the 40th percentile on the state Universal Reading Screener test or if a catastrophic event occurred leading up to the TCAP exam. You can pick up an appeal at your child’s school district.
