State of Emergency declared in multiple counties after severe flooding

Wise, Russell, Lee, Buchanan, Scott, Dickenson and numerous localities in Virginia, Northeast TN along with neighboring West Virginia and Kentucky were impacted with torrential rain from a winter storm over the weekend. The Virginia National Guard is in the flood-affected areas to provide relief and Gov. Youngkin has been in contact with county leaders. A state of emergency has been called for several counties including Russell, Buchanon, Dickenson, Lee, Scott, and Wise counties. Governor Youngkin has submitted a request to President Donald Trump to expedite a Major Disaster Declaration for communities impacted the storm. Officials say flood waters are receding and some roads that had been closed Sunday and Sunday night have started to reopen, but the warning to drivers not to attempt to drive through flood waters remains. 9 deaths from the storm have been reported so far.
