State inmate housed in Wise County found guilty of killing cellmate in 2018

A Red Onion State Prison inmate already serving a life sentence for a 1989 murder was given an additional 20 years of jail time for strangling his cellmate to death.
A jury found William Saunders, 52, guilty of killing Donald Wayne Gary in May 2018 when the two were housed at Wallens Ridge in Big Stone Gap.
Prosecutors said Saunders weaponized a pair of pants and used them in Gary’s murder.
