State education department gives final guidance for Virginia school on cell phone policy
Governor Youngkin thanked the students, teachers, and parents who gave feedback on his proposed cell-phone free instructional day in Virginia schools.
The remarks came as the Department of Education released its final guidance directive for Youngkin’s Cell Phone-Free Education executive order that defines the directive as bell-to-bell with students placing cell phones away at the morning’s first bell until classes dismiss for the afternoon.
The order also indicates lunch and times between classes are also included in a phone-free school day. More than 6,000 comments were made in person and online across the state on getting phones out of classrooms. Policies and procedures will be finished and established January 1st.
