Southwest Virginia Man Receives Lengthy Prison Sentence On Child Sex Charges

A Southwest Virginia man is sentenced to 40 years in prison for multiple transgressions of sex crimes against children. 43 year old Daniel Andrew Mathena of Tazewell County was sentenced on charges ranging from rape of a child, to aggravated sexual battery of a child between 13 and 14 years of age by force. Mathena’s five charges of abuse took place from 2018-2019 and a release from the Commonwealth’s Attorneys office says the 40 year sentence is a result of the unusual depravity of Mathena’s actions.
