Slain SWVA Police Officer To Be Escorted Home, Thirty Three Year Old Suspect In Custody, But Not Yet Charged
A suspected cop killer remains jailed, Virginia flags will fly at half staff, and a 29 year old southwest Virginia police officer, killed in the line of duty will be escorted from Roanoke to Big Stone Gap Virginia Monday. 29 year old Michael Chandler was shot and killed early Saturday morning while conducting a welfare check on an individual in the 25 hundred block of Orr Street. Chandler arrived at the scene and encountered at least one individual and was shot and later succombed to his injuries. Later that same day, a so far unidentified thirty three year old Big Stone Gap man was arrested at a Kingsport hotel. The suspect has not yet been charged and is being held currently on probation violations out of South Carolina and Wise County.
