Runaway teen charged with attempted murder in attack on Kingsport policeman
A runaway teen who escaped state custody, eventually being tracked down by a Kingsport policeman near Lincoln Street, is now criminally charged after the officer was wounded.
A juvenile petition was submitted in court charging the 16-year-old child with attempted first-degree murder and evading arrest, according to an update from the TBI.
Details of a preliminary review said the teen attempted to gain control of the officer’s service weapon when the pistol discharged striking him in the leg.
TBI agents continue to investigate the circumstances leading to a shooting that injured a Kingsport police officer Tuesday evening.
