Roundabout construction to begin in Chilhowie

Contractors for the Virginia Department of Transportation are preparing for a road project in the town of Chilhowie that will impact traffic until next summer.

A roundabout is being constructed just off of Interstate 81’s Exit 35 and was selected for safety, improved traffic flow on Railroad Drive, and will provide a cost savings compared with regular intersection projects.

The price tag on the Smyth County project is $2.8 million.
