Police: Boarding business scam resulted in dead dogs and thousands stolen

Police said a North Carolina woman used a canine boarding business to scam customers, including one in Johnson City, by telling them their dogs died in car crashes.

Charisma Johnston, 22, surrendered to city police and was charged with two counts of theft and one count of deceptive business practices.

The report said Johnston is also facing animal cruelty charges in Warren and Wake counties in North Carolina, confessing to police about using the car crash scheme and some of the dogs did die in her care.
