Park rangers report fatality following crash in The Spur between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge

A passenger in a single-vehicle wreck was killed late Wednesday when the car she was riding in crashed in the Spur area between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

A report from officials at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park said the vehicle was headed southbound when the driver lost control near the Gum Stand Road intersection and crashed into the river.

The victim was identified as Rebecca Hamby, 22, of Sevierville. The driver was sent to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
