One dead after officer involved shooting in Erwin
Erwin Police say a man has died following an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning in Erwin and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating. Erwin Police Chief Regan Tilson said officers responded to a noise complaint, reportedly of a dog barking, at a home on Maple Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The TBI says officers approached the front door knocked and identified themselves, then reported hearing a shotgun rack and a man say he “had something for them.” Officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, who then pointed the gun at the officers, who then opened fire striking subject. The man was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. According to the TBI, at least two officers discharged their weapons and no officers were injured. The TBI continues to investigate.
