NHTSA data: Virginia fatal wrecks up 72 percent in first quarter of 2022
Preliminary data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows drivers in Virginia who were killed in traffic crashes in the first quarter of 2022 have increased to alarming levels.
The new report says fatal wrecks in the first four months of this year in the Commonwealth were up 72 percent with 292 fatalities.
Neighboring Tennessee actually saw a 2 percent drop during the same time period while Kentucky, North Carolina, and West Virginia all experienced increases in highway deaths.
