Multiple vehicle crash closes I-81 northbound lanes in Glade Spring Tuesday

One person was airlifted and others were taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 near Glade Spring on Tuesday. The Glade Spring Fire Department and Richardson Ambulance Service responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-81 near Glade Spring just after 4:30 p.m. Crews found multiple vehicle crashes over a quarter-mile distance. The fire department said it appeared that twelve vehicles were involved. One person was taken by helicopter and seven others were taken to an area hospital by ground. The Virginia Department of Transportation temporarily closed both northbound lanes of I-81 in the area due to the accident.
