Marion fire victim memorialized on social media

A member of a local church congregation has posted a tribute to an 8-year-old boy who perished in a house fire in Smyth County, Virginia early Friday.

A social media message announced a memorial is being established at a gazebo on the grounds of Marion Baptist Church for Niko Crosby whose body was recovered from inside a burned-out home on Fortner Avenue following the incident that police said started after midnight.

Sheriff Chip Shuler said foul play was not suspected as a cause of the four-alarm blaze and the case remains under review by his department and the Virginia State Police.
