Howard Hawk Willis, the man convicted for the deaths of Georgia teenagers Adam and Samantha Chrismer in Johnson City in 2010, is staging a hunger strike while on death row at a supermax prison in Nashville.
The Associated Press reported Willis has complained about medical care, padlocks installed on cell doors, and the quality of food at Riverbend Maximum Prison. An acquaintance of Willis told the AP that Willis, now 73, may have had a stroke affecting his cognitive abilities.
Another request for a new trial by Willis was rejected by the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals last month.
Investigators said Willis murdered the teens then dismembered their bodies in 2002 placing most of the remains in barrels in a Johnson City storage unit. The head and hands belonging to one of the teens was found by fishermen near Winged Deer Park on Boone Lake.
