Legislators in SWVA ready new “APCO Rate Reduction Act” bill
Southwest Virginia legislators previously introduced the AEP Accountability Act, a bill specifically aimed at Appalachian Power customers to give them an option of another power provider in the region. The proposed bill failed to pass through the state senate, and since power bills in the southwest Virginia region have continued to show a consistent increase, Senator Todd Pillion and other legislators are introducing a new bill called the APCO Rate Reduction Act. The new bill will increase SEC oversight, block base rate increases for the next year, and will simplify bills. The bill would also protect customers from rate shock during the winter months and repairs due to storms like Helene.
