Kingsport native, former senator Doug Overbey submits name for Tennessee Supreme Court vacancy
Kingsport native and former U.S. Attorney Doug Overbey has submitted his name for consideration for the open seat on the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Overbey was appointed to serve in Greeneville in 2017 by President Donald Trump. Prior to that, he served as Senator for District 2 in the Tennessee General Assembly.
Public hearings for the position will be held in Nashville on Dec. 3 and 4. Governor Bill Lee will then be given three finalists to consider. The vacancy on the court was left by the death of Justice Cornelia Clark who died of cancer in September at the age of 71.
The 10 others who have applied according to the Associated Press include: William Blaylock of Sparta, Sarah Campbell of Nashville, Kristi M. Davis of Knoxville, Timothy L. Easter of Nashville, Kelvin D. Jones of Nashville, William Neal McBrayer of Brentwood, Robert F. Parsley of Lookout Mountain, Jonathan T. Skrmetti of Franklin, Gingeree Smith of Smyrna and Jeffrey Usman of Joelton.
