Kingsport Main Street reopened after major project

After over two years of being closed due to construction, Main Street in Kingsport opened for traffic Monday morning. The $20 million Main Street Rebuild Project began as a way to fix a stability issue with the road and officials say eighty percent of the project was paid for by federal funds. Although the street is open drivers should still use caution because workers are still present with final utility and landscaping work. One final layer of asphalt will also be laid down. The traffic signal at Main and Broad will not be operational until later this week. Officials say a grand opening celebration will be held in the spring.
