Kingsport apologizes for “offensive graphics” for billboard ad to attract visitors
The City of Kingsport issued a public apology on social media Tuesday for what they called an offensive arrangement of graphics on a digital billboard ad for a website the city markets as a recruiting tool for potential residents and tourists.
The advertisement placed the website address, ThisIsKingsport.com, underneath three specially-design capital Ks, which drew complaints and comparisons to the hate group the Ku Klux Klan.
The apology also included a promise that Kingsport’s communications department will use a more stringent review process for such materials.
