Jury convicts Jonesbourough man of raping a child at Limestone church

A jury has convicted a Jonesborough man of raping a child during a 2023 incident at a Limestone church. A Washington County jury found 49 year old James Fairchild guilty of aggravated rape of a child and two counts of aggravated sexual battery. The jury delivered its verdict last week following a two-day trial. Fairchild was charged after the mother of 6-year-old reported the crime to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Attorney General Steve Finney’s office reports Fairchild’s charges stemmed from a July 29, 2023 incident at a church in Limestone in which Fairchild admitted to investigators that he took the child into a church bathroom and committed the acts that resulted in the charges. Sentencing is scheduled for December 20th.
