Johnson City May Take Over Ownership Of Historic Ashe Street Courthouse
Washington County’s 112 year old Ashe Street Courthouse is located in the heart of Johnson City’s West Watauga Street Corridor improvement project. County Commissioners approved an agreement between the County and Johnson City leaders that could lead to the historic building’s transfer of ownership from Washington County to Johnson City. Johnson City leaders have secured a five million dollar State grant to be used for refurbishing the building for city and county offices, but the money must be spent by summer of 2022. Johnson City Commissioners will soon begin reviewing the agreement.
