Johnson City Man’s Second Degree Murder Case Heads To Grand Jury

A Johnson City man accused of second degree murder in a downtown Johnson City bar room shooting is having his case sent to a Washington County Tennessee Grand Jury. 31 year old Jonathan Murphy appeared in Sessions Court Monday pleading self defense in connection to the October shooting death of Ryan Nicholson following a fight at Tipton Street Pub. Murphy claims someone pulled a weapon on him at the bar and was surrounded when he shot and killed Nicholson. The judge in the case denied a bond reduction request from Murphy and the Grand Jury is set for February 7.
