JLARC study: Education system in Virginia plagued with discipline problems, teachers leaving
The COVID pandemic has impacted more than just student grades.
A new study conducted by Virginia’s Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission shows the percentage of discipline problems and students coping with mental health issues has doubled since the pandemic.
Public school systems cannot recruit or retain teachers, according to study data, with instructors leaving the classroom at a 12 percent higher pace than before remote learning.
More than 800 teaching jobs were unfilled pre-pandemic. That number grew to over 2,800 when classrooms were back to normal.
