Grant to Divert Abandoned Mine Runoff In Wise County

Runoff from an abandoned mine seeping into homes in Wise County Virginia is being diverted with the help of more than 200 thousand dollars in Abandoned Mine Land Grant funds. Some residents in Pound Virginia are directly down slope from where a surface mine operated until 1973. Water runoff is a common problem associated with Virginia’s historic mining sites. The abandoned Mine Land Grant not only will divert the runoff but also reduces environmental impacts for those living near the site.
