Governor pledges $35 million to correct Bristol landfill problems
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced a $35 million funding package for key projects related to eliminating odor and environmental problems at the Bristol Landfill.
This is the third major development in landfill repairs this year, following the confirmation of a consent decree in April with the Department of Environmental Quality agreeing to repairs that will eventually close the site.
A $2 million allocation was given to conservancy groups to restore endangered freshwater mussels in the SW Virginia river system as part of Youngkin’s plan.
