Governor Lee touts voucher plan on JC visit
Governor Bill Lee spoke on a visit to Johnson City and made another pitch for his school-choice voucher proposal. Gov. Lee was speaking at a meeting of the East Tennessee Republican Club and referred to his school voucher plan as “the largest priority component of his legislative agenda.” Lee’s proposed Education Freedom Scholarship plan was applauded at the meeting but does not get approval everywhere, with many school systems in NETN and across the state, voting to officially oppose the plan. The proposed legislation would expand the state’s voucher program first to some qualifying families, then eventually to all Tennessee families.
