Gas prices in Virginia drop 6.8 cents in past week
The average price of gas in Virginia has fallen 6.8 cents in the past week, according to GasBuddy. This organization surveys more than 4,000 stations across the Commonwealth to collect data for these reports. According to this week’s report, the cheapest station in Virginia sits at $3.53, whereas the most expensive is up to $5.49, a difference of $1.96.
Gasbuddy analysts report this drop to be linked to surging COVID cases in China, which prompted new movement restrictions, hurting demand; as well as President Biden’s announcement that the U.S. will release 180 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, causing a further decline in demand.
