FEMA announces incoming millions to fix, rebuild bridges in Carter, Greene counties
Federal disaster relief funds totaling $10.7 million will be used to restorate the two Poga Bridges in Carter County that extend over the Elk River.
The structures, both 230-feet long and built in 1957, washed out during hurricane flooding in September.
The projects also received $1 million in FEMA emergency protective measures shortly after the disaster.
Greene County also acquired FEMA funding of $4.6 million to demolish and build back the crossings of the Easterly Bridge that suffered terminal damage and was submerged during the flood.
