Federal judged denies attorney’s motion to suppress evidence in Williams case
Federal judge Ronnie Greer has denied accused child rapist Sean Williams’ longshot motion to suppress evidence in his child pornography production case, which goes to trial in less than two weeks. Williams’ defense attorney had contended that Western Carolina University police initial seizure of drugs and other items from the front seat of Williams’ car when he was arrested in N.C. April 29, 2023, lacked probable cause and violated Williams’ constitutional rights . In a 17-page opinion, Judge Greer rejected the argument about the seizure, which happened before Williams was formally arrested or read his rights. The judge instead found ample evidence to support prosecutors’ arguments that the warrantless search met a probable cause standard due to what he called the “totality of the circumstances” involved.
